* 분사의 목적격 보어
목적에 다음에 분사가 와서, 목적어의 상태, 동작을 설명하는 목적격보어의 역할을 한다.
I felt the tears coming into my eys. (나는 눈물이 나는 것을 느꼈다.)
I felt myself touched on the shoulder. (누가 내 어깨를 만지는 것을 나는 느꼈다.)
* Examples
1. 나는 그것이 수요일까지는 끝나길 바란다.
I wish it finished by Wednesday.
2. 무엇인가가 타는 냄새가 난다.
I smell something burning.
3. 나는 천둥 치는 소리를 들었다.
I heard the thunder roaring.
4. 누가 내 이름을 뒤에서 부르는 것을 들었다.
I heard my name called behind me.
5. 나는 사람이 교수형 당하는 것을 본 적이 없다.
I have never seen a man hanged.

1. All of a sudden the sky became dark, as if covered by a thick cloud. I looked up and saw a large bird flying towards me.
* all of a sudden = all at once = 갑자기/ as if covered = as if it were covered
(해석) 갑자기 하늘이 마치 두꺼운 구름에 가리우듯이 어두어졌다. 나는 올려다보았다. 큰 새 한 마리가 나에게로 날아오는 게 보였다.
2. Edmond felt himself hurled through space, and falling like a wounded bird. Then there was a terrific noise in his ears, and he felt the cold sea water whirling about him.
* hurl = 집어던지다/ space = 공간/ terrific = 무서운/ whirl = 소용돌이치다
(해석) Edmond는 자기 자신이 공중으로 던져지고 상처 입은 새처럼 떨어지는 것을 느꼈다. 그러자 그의 귀에 무서운 소리가 나고, 차가운 바닷물이 자기 주위에서 소용돌이치는 것을 느꼈다.
