* [for + 목적어 + to 부정사]

It is difficult for me to do the work.
그러나 kind, cruel, brave, wise, nice 등 뒤에서는 for가 아니라 [of + 목적어]가 된다.
It is very kind of you to help me.
This is the book for you to read.
= This is the book that you should read.
He stepped aside for her to pass.
= He stepped aside so that she could(or might) pass.

* 독해

1. For a nation to be great it need not necessarily be big, though bigness is often confounded with greatness. A nation may be very big in point of territory and population, and yet be devoid of true greatness.
* not necessarily = 반드시 ~할 필요는 없다/ confound = 혼동하다/ territory = 영토/ be devoid of ~ = ~이 결핍하다

2. There is probably no better way for a foreigner to appreciate the richness and variety of the English language than by studying the various ways in which Shakespeare uses it.
* variety = 다양성/ various = 다양한
